Third Annual Howard Center Curling Challenge

Posted on March 20, 2012 11:26 AM by Meghan

It’s that time of year again.  No, not Easter.  Not spring skiing.  Not mud season, (although all those things are happening now too.)  It’s the Third Annual Howard Center Curling Challenge!  You may remember the LCC team won the tournament the first year.  Yes, we won the whole thing.  We have a picture of the trophy to prove it.  Well, this is the year we get it back.  Anyone interested in challenging us?  There is still time to put together a team and sign up!

Here are the details: The tournament is March 31st at Cairns Arena in South Burlington.  Not to worry if you’ve never curled before, there is instruction on the Friday before (March 30) given by the Green Mountain Curling Club so you’ll be ready to hit the ice come Saturday.  There are wonderful prizes for highest fundraiser, best costume, best team spirit and more!  And did I mention there is a bagpiper that leads the ceremony for the championship game?

Most importantly, this event supports the Howard Center, an organization that is an essential part of our local community here in the Burlington area.  The Howard Center’s mission is to “improve the well-being of children, adults, families and communities.”  Their clinicians and staff work 24/7 to help individuals and families experiencing depression and other mental illness; alcohol and substance abuse; and intellectual disabilities, including autism. The work that the organization performs makes a real difference in the lives of those who are facing these challenges.

LCC is proud to be a gold sponsor of the event, as well as having a team going for the gold for the third year in a row!  With offices just down the street, the Howard Center is our neighbor who is dedicated to making our community a better place and LCC couldn’t be happier to help support such a worthy and important organization.

Not sure about curling?  You can still support the event by visiting first giving to contribute to the cause and you can come watch the semi-finals and finals starting at 6pm.  Who knows, the Easter bunny just might show up!
