Extreme S'moring!

Posted on February 21, 2011 2:26 PM by Erin

Lake Champlain Chocolates inadvertently invented a new sport this past weekend, EXTREME S'MORING!

The conditions were ideal at the Stowe Mountain Resort - gale force winds, -20 degrees temps, snow that was coming down sideways.  In other words, a perfect storm.

The heartiest of skiers & riders threw on their helmets, goggles, and a couple of extra layers to delight in our traditional hot chocolate and to roast our new homemade marshmallows over an open fire.

Who was selected MVP of extreme s'moring?  The kid who downed a record 8 cups of hot chocolate?  This little guy in the green jacket who showed impressive technique as he held on for dear life?

It was too hard to choose.  Let's just say they're both winners.

Bride's Choice Award 2011

Posted on February 16, 2011 10:09 AM by Erin

The brides have spoken.  And when brides speak, people listen.  So what did they have to say?   Lots of nice things about working with us!  Such nice things in fact, that we won an award!

WeddingWire.com recently announced the winners of their Bride's Choice Awards.  And once again, we're thrilled to have been selected for the Wedding Favors & Gifts category!  (For those of you keeping count, yes that would be back-to-back wins!).

The Bride's Choice Awards recognize the top five percent of wedding professionals across 20 service categories, based on the reviews of over 750,000 WeddingWire newlyweds.  That's a lot of reviews!  You can read some of ours here.

We'd like to thank all the newlyweds who chose Lake Champlain Chocolates for their special day, and especially those who took to the time to share their experience with us online.

If your big day is coming up, we'd be happy to assist you in picking out the perfect chocolate favors.  You can email weddings@LakeChamplainChocolates.com or speak with one of our wedding consultants personally by calling 1-800-465-5909.

Remember, extraordinary events need extraordinary chocolates!

Thanks again!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wishing everyone a sweet Valentine's Day!

Love is Sweet

Posted on February 1, 2011 8:50 AM by Erin

Did you know Valentine's Day is one of the most popular days of the year to get engaged? (Right behind Christmas and New Year's Eve).  It makes sense...it is, after all, a day in which we celebrate love.

If you're thinking of popping the question, we thought we'd give you a few creative ideas for surprising your true love using Valentines Chocolates.  It's the perfect cover since chocolates are already expected on February 14th (don't wind up in the dog house!).

The Grand Heart – our most impressive assortment for Valentine's Day.  Let that special someone know they've captured your heart by tying the ring to the pink ribbon, or tuck it inside for a sweet surprise. (But please, just don't hide it inside one of the chocolate truffles...we've all seen the TV sitcoms where the person chokes!).

Kiss Me Frog – let your loved one know they're done kissing frogs...you're their prince!  You can't get much more romantic than that.

Be Mine Gift Basket – the name says it all.  Overflowing with over 50 chocolates, it's perfect for hiding a ring box.  Or you could even take the truffles out of the 2-piece box and put the ring in there (you'll probably want a little treat for yourself anyways!).

Chocolate Hearts – forget the rose petals, why not set the mood by scattering chocolate hearts instead?  The Milk Caramel and Raspberry Cream are my personal favorites, or we also have the classic Milk and Dark Chocolate and Dark Mint Crunch, too!

Traditional Heart Truffles – no matter how you decide to propose, you'll need some champagne on hand afterwards to celebrate.  And nothing pairs better with bubbly than our all-natural chocolate truffles.

Have a Happy Valentine's Day...and Good Luck!!!

Winner of the Say Something Sweet Contest

Posted on September 7, 2010 8:57 AM by Erin

The results are in!  Our friends over at WeddingWire.com have read through all the amazing entries they received for the Say Something Sweet Contest, and selected Tara as the winner!  Her prize?  Over 1,000 of our chocolate hearts and 250 sheer organza favor bags.

Congratulations Tara!  We hope you and your guests enjoy the chocolate favors on your big day.

Here is Tara’s winning entry, explaining how WeddingWire has been so sweet to her during her wedding planning process:

“I happily admit that I am addicted to WeddingWire.  I have a browser open at all waking hours (and have stayed up late just because there is a good discussion on the forums).  I cannot imagine planning a wedding without the help of your site.  I would have lost it and shot my MoH long ago.  The reason I joined WeddingWire was for your tools.  I love the checklist and budget features since they help keep me on track.  However, the best part about WeddingWire was something I didn’t join expecting- the friendships.  I have no doubt that I will still be on WeddingWire long after I am actually married just to provide support and help to my WeddingWire family.  I can log on in a terrible mood and before I realize it I am laughing about hilarious postings.  I can vent without worrying what people will think, and I can get honest but constructive comments on my wedding plans.  When Roger and I had to postpone the wedding indefinitely because of my health issues I actually felt more comfortable talking to the women on WeddingWire than anyone.  They made a terrible time a lot easier.  I was overjoyed the day I could get back on and tell my WW Sisters that I was healthy enough to start planning again.  There are other wedding sites out there (apparently) but none that even come close to rivaling WeddingWire.”

Thanks again to WeddingWire.com for partnering with us on this fun contest!

And for those of you who did not win, here’s a little something sweet for you…..we offer volume discounts on your wedding favors!  Just give as a call at 1-800-465-5909 and we’d be happy to help you pick out just the right chocolates for your special day.

New Favor Boxes & Ribbons

Posted on August 23, 2010 9:38 AM by Erin

If you're a soon-to-be bride, you know that getting married is not just as simple as walking down the aisle.  There are details...and lots of them!  And not a single one of them seems unimportant.

Besides setting a date and choosing a venue, what's often at the top of the to-do list?  Picking a color scheme.  Why?  Because not only does it show off your personal sense of style, but it affects everything else from the bridesmaid dresses, to the invitations, flowers, programs, and yes, even the favors.

So with color schemes in mind, we're excited to have recently added a ton of new ribbon options to our most popular wedding favor - the Custom Engraved Favor Box.  There are now 20 different ribbons for you to choose from & coordinate with your big day - from classic colors such as ivory, black, navy, and brown to those that will make a bolder statement - such as turquoise, purple, raspberry, and orange.  We even have chartreuse!

And because we know brides love options, we're now offering two different box designs - a simple yet elegant White Favor Box or, if you want something a little more fun, go for the box with the Cocoa Pod Design printed on it.

With each box, you can choose your favorite chocolates to tuck inside, including gourmet truffles, chocolate hearts, or Chocolates of Vermont.   You can also make your event extra special by adding an engraved message to the top of your chocolate wedding favors.

Happy Choosing!

P.S. Don't forget to enter the Say Something Sweet Contest we're running with our friends over at WeddingWire.com!  There are just a few days left to enter.

Mom-Approved

Posted on May 3, 2010 10:49 AM by Erin

Every time a holiday rolls around, I'm always racking my brain trying to think of the perfect chocolate for Mother's Day.  Then after a few days, I usually resort to asking her what she really wants or needs.  If your Mom is anything like mine, the answer is always the same: "Please, save your money.  I don't need anything.  I don't want anything.  Just send me a card".  I'm not sure what it is about motherhood that makes you a martyr.  Or maybe it's that you never stop worrying about your kids.

Well whatever it is, I think a gourmet chocolate gift may be your answer.  Really, it's the perfect Mom gift.  It's practical - she doesn't need to water it, store it, try it on (only to return it later).  Nor does it require batteries or setup.  At the same time, she will be impressed by how extraordinary Lake Champlain Chocolates are. Mom will appreciate the fact that our chocolates are handcrafted in small batches (the old-fashioned way) and made from all-natural, local ingredients.

Mom will also approve that we have chocolate gifts for any budget.  Our Chocolate Truffles are always a hit on Mother's Day, with gift boxes starting at just $12.  Our assorted Chocolate Gift Boxes are also popular, especially the beautiful Spring 15 Piece and Summer 15 Piece Gift Boxes (both $29).  If you're looking for something really fun, my Mom loves the Chocolate Fish!  Or, the Chocolate Flowers are also a great value at $19.

Those are just a few gifts that I'm sure your Mom would be thrilled to receive this Mother's Day...and more importantly won't keep her up at night worrying about how much you spent.  If you'd like any other suggestions, give us a call!

Make Mine Chocolate!

Posted on March 17, 2010 10:23 AM by Erin

Easter is just a hop away, and you know what that means...chocolate!  Chocolate Easter bunnies, chocolate Easter baskets, chocolate Easter eggs...you name it, anything chocolate...with a few delicious jelly beans mixed in.

While chocolate is traditionally what the Easter Bunny will bring this April 4th, we know there are a few of you out there who may be considering surprising your loved ones with a real live baby bunny or chick.  Before you do so though, we stumbled across this great organization – Make Mine Chocolate! – whose mission is to educate the public about the responsibilities involved with having a rabbit as a pet.  Check out their Interactive Bun to find out if a rabbit is right for your family. (I don't want to brag, but I got quite a few thumbs up from Watson!).  You can even print out a shopping list of things you'll need at the end.

And if it turns out that you're not quite ready to own a bunny just yet, don't worry we've got you covered for Easter.  From our adorable Placesetting Milk Chocolate Bunny to our Classic Dark Chocolate Bunny, to the Cruisin' Easter Bunny Rabbit, and our largest - the Mr. Goodtime Giant Chocolate Bunny - you're sure to find the right one to take home.

Host a Chocolate & Cheese Pairing Party

Posted on December 23, 2009 9:23 AM by Erin

Every year, it seems like more and more people are hosting their own New Year's Eve party instead of spending the night out on the town.  But with entertaining comes a lot of planning and hard work.  What will you do?  What will you serve?  One way to both keep it simple and have fun while you wait for the ball to drop is to have a chocolate & cheese pairing party.

Arrange different combinations of chocolates and cheeses around the room (with cards identifying each) for guests to sample and discuss.  Have them start with the mildest pairing and then work their way up.  You can even print out instruction cards, with advice on how to taste like a pro.

For guests to cleanse their palates between pairings, you might want to serve a dry sparkling wine such as Presecco (it is the holidays after all!).  Sparkling water, plain crackers, or baskets of fresh bread also work nicely.

Our friends over at the Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery came up with a few pairings to help you get you started (you can also watch Allison Hooper, owner/cheese maker, demonstrate these pairings on VPT Cooks Chocolate):

• Fresh Goat Cheese (Chevre) with Dark Sea Salt Caramels

• Sharp Vermont Cheddar with Dark Chocolate Covered Ginger or Ginger Lemon Organic Truffles

• Blue Cheese with 70% Dark Organic Truffles

• Hard Sheep’s Milk Cheese with Organic Honey Fig Truffles or with Organic Milk Chocolate Sea Salt & Almonds

• Bijou with Spicy Aztec Organic Dark Chocolate

• Bonne Bouche with Champagne Truffles

These are just a few suggestions; you could also browse your local cheese shop for other ideas and recommendations.  Just remember, as Allison says in the video, there are no absolute right answers for pairing...just have fun & enjoy!
