Chocolate NonPareils from Lake Champlain Chocolates

There are all sorts of love, from the romantic kind to the familial type, and you should celebrate every kind of love on Valentine’s Day. So why not make sure you get something for your best friend? If you’re thinking that it can be a little odd to send a friend a red heart-shaped box of chocolates with romantic phrases written on the top, don’t worry, there are plenty of things that can carry the idea of a valued friendship without the romance.

For instance, getting something sharable is a great idea; not only do you get to partake in the treat, but you can throw in a DVD, and a pack of microwave popcorn and call it a ready-to-go night in with the gals or guys! For chocolate, try our nonpareils or some chocolate covered nuts. For movies, think Wayne’s World or Thelma and Louise, or, if you want to suggest something that might be in the works, When Harry Met Sally.

Whatever you choose, good chocolate will always be an integral part of the final package!

What to get your kids for Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is a time to show how much you care for those around you, and that includes all of the members of your family, even the little ones. Fortunately, we have the perfect gift for the children in your life. We have put together a fun little child-friendly box of chocolates. With six chocolate candies, all of which are milk chocolate, you can be sure the young ones will enjoy each piece.

But why stop at chocolate? We’ve created a coloring page based on the box top, which you can download here. Complete the set with a box of crayons, and you have a winning combination!

As an alternative to the box of frog-chocolates, or maybe in addition to it, you could also pick up one of our Chocolate Frogs. Kissing him might not turn him into a prince, but it will certainly taste good!

Whatever chocolate you chose, a little chocolate and a little coloring are sure to go hand in hand for your kids.

Might it be fair to say that traditionally it has been men who buy chocolate for women? Let’s think about that – does it have to be so? Are we implying that chocolate is inherently feminine? Now let’s change those stereotypes and start to think about what types of gifts us ladies can get for our husbands and boyfriends.

If chocolate is associated with women, beer is more often associated with men. When we put the two together, we create the kind of perfection you have your heart set on for Valentine’s Day. Fortunately, we have a page of our website dedicated to beer and chocolate pairing. You can also find more pairing options listed in other blog articles. Buying a gorgeous bottle of specialty ale and a nice box of chocolates is a great way to play to both sides of Valentine’s Day, and who knows, he might even share! In addition to the ones listed in the links above, here are a few more pairing ideas:

Peak Organic Ale and Chocolate Caramel Hearts

A New England Organic favorite, Peak Organic Nut Brown Ale, is widely available and has a light smooth and nutty flavor with hints of caramel and toasted malt. For Valentine’s Day, give him a bag of our Caramel Hearts to go along with it. The caramel tones in the beer itself along with its slightly sweet aftertaste complement the hearts well, and the lightness of the beer will stop it from overpowering the milk chocolate covering on these hearts.

Hobgoblin Beer and Spicy Chocolate

Stepping further afield to a foreign land, try Wychwood’s Hobgoblin, a British Beer and a great example of an ESB (Extra Strong/Special Bigger.) This dark, roasty beer has aromas of toffee and chocolate with a buttery finish. Package it along with our 5-piece truffle box and see how well the smooth ganache in the dark chocolate truffles works with the beer!

Wine and Chocolate

But it isn’t all about beer: you might want to heat up your evening with an organic spicy Aztec chocolate bar. To top off your gift, give him a few of those bars along with a nice bottle of red zinfandel, perhaps from the Ridge Lytton Springs or Geyserville. The 55% chocolate rounds out the acidity in these wines and counterbalances the tannins, while the pumpkin seeds enhance the wine’s roastiness and the cayenne spice in the chocolate balances the wine's fruity tones.

WhistlePig Whiskey and Chocolate Truffles

Finally, our newest style of truffle, the revel, features the Vermont-made WhistlePig Whiskey in one of the chocolates included. Get your guy a bottle of this fine rye whiskey (which has earned the highest marks from whiskey aficionados around the world) along with our chocolates. What could be more manly and yet more seductive?

The choice is yours, but whatever you decide to get your husband, boyfriend or good guy friend (with maybe the potential for more), don’t be intimidated by tradition.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wishing everyone a sweet Valentine's Day!
XOXOXOXOXO

Nothing says romance and elegance on Valentine’s Day like a juicy red strawberry dipped in gourmet chocolate. While we usually don’t have our strawberries in stores during the long winter months, Valentine’s Day is special enough to warrant a comeback.

Chocolate covered strawberries have become a Valentine’s Day mainstay. The sweet fresh juiciness of a strawberry enrobed in a dark chocolate shell is pretty irresistible on any day of the year. However, Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to impress your significant other (or treat yourself!) with this very special indulgence.

Our chocolate covered strawberries will be sold in our retail stores this weekend through Monday, the 14th. Once the strawberries arrive, we hand dip them in our 54% dark chocolate. Strawberries are dipped daily in our retail stores. For the freshest taste and best chocolate experience, the berries should be enjoyed within 24 hours of dipping.

If you want to make sure that you don’t miss out on these limited time treats (they do go quickly!) feel free to place your strawberry orders in advance—just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Call us at any one of our three retail stores, Pine Street or Church St in Burlington or on Rte 100 in Waterbury to place your order.  Your Valentine will love you for it!

Valentine's Day $5 Shipping!

Posted on January 26, 2010 3:03 PM by Allison

The season of love is upon us, and you know what that means...chocolate!

Since Valentine's Day is on a Sunday this year, we have a couple suggestions and one big incentive to make sure Valentine's Day chocolates are part of the day. You will have no excuses!
's
Shall I start with the incentive?

Lake Champlain Chocolates is offering $5 flat-rate shipping for any orders between now and February 8th (click on any of the links in this blog for the discount).  So you can splurge and get the biggest box your honey deserves, 'cause shipping will be $5 no matter how much chocolate you buy!

Now for some suggestions to make this year's Valentine's Day amazing (we know, not all of you need help).

Let her co-workers think you're the greatest and have chocolates sent to her at work.  Being early never hurt anyone.  She'll know you didn't run to the grocery store on the way to pick her up.

Send a heart-shaped box of chocolates to you and hand-deliver it on the fourteenth.  Better yet?  Make it a surprise visit.  I'm sure she'll be much happier to see you than the delivery guy at the front door.

With a card that reads "You deserve an extended Valentine's Day", you can definitely get away with having chocolates sent to her the day after.  Don't worry; we'll take care of the card!

So there you go!  With $5 shipping, you really can't afford to miss this Valentine's Day.  Make it extra special with gourmet chocolates from Lake Champlain Chocolates.

For anyone who’s ever kissed a frog, or for someone who’s already met their prince, consider sending Lake Champlain Chocolates famous Kiss Me Frog – the perfect Valentine chocolate to give to just about anyone.  Need ideas for Valentines gifts for the man in your life?  What about your sister?  Son?  Daughter? These little guys are cute yet sassy and will put a smile on your Valentine’s face no matter what.

Venturing into the factory for a peak of our Valentine chocolates being made, I realized that these gourmet little frogs might be the coolest – and most versatile - Valentine candy out there.  How can you go wrong with an adorable frog handmade of chocolate?

The mould for the frog’s body is hand-decorated with dark chocolate accents and then filled halfway full with milk chocolate.  A ride on the magnetic tumbler hardens the chocolate and brings it to the outside of the mould, leaving a hollow center.

The frogs are lined up on a sheet tray while their feet are prepared.

A sturdy base of white chocolate and dark chocolate webbed feet will hold up each frog – held together by a generous dollop of white chocolate and proudly standing tall, awaiting a Valentines chocolate kiss.

Don’t forget you can include a personalized message.  Chocolate is much better than boys! for that friend who was dumped right before Valentines Day.  You are my Princess if you think you’ve been a little toad-like lately.  And a simple Kiss Me will never go out of style.

You’re not too late!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

XOXOXO

It's Time To Love Peanuts Again!

Posted on February 4, 2009 3:27 PM by Admin

Peanut lovers Rejoice! Those of us that love peanuts have been feeling a bit blue about the recent peanut issues in the news but here’s some news you can feel good about. Lake Champlain Chocolates Peanut Butter cups, previously only available in 16-pc size, is now available in a perfectly delightful and prettily packed 5-pc box. Yup. 5 pieces.

Just the right size for snacking without danger of going overboard. Just the right size for sharing should you decide to. Just the right size for giving as a sweet treat to lovers of Arachis hypogaea (apparently the scientific name for peanut). Got any of those on your Valentine’s Day Gift list?

For those of you who don’t care about peanuts, this may seem like a shameless commercial and to some degree, it is. But if you love peanuts like us, this is news. Big news. Really big news. Ok, maybe just big news. And since our chocolates are all-natural and preservative free, you can be sure they’re safe to eat. Mangia! Mangia!

Each winter, Burlington hosts a WinterFest where everyone gets out and celebrates the season. Why not? It beats being stuck inside all day and quite honestly, it’s right about now that Cabin Fever starts to set in. Hosted over the course of the weekend, activities include snow sculpting, ice carving, jumping in the freezing cold lake, music, food and lots of other family activities.

As part of the festivities, Lake Champlain Chocolates will be hosting a bit of  indoor fun where families and friends can come to warm up and have a good time. So, if you’re in the area Saturday, February 7 from noon until 4pm, stop in and say hello. There will be chocolate demonstrations, chocolate samplings, a hot chocolate bar and even Valentines crafts for kids.

One of the highlights of the day will be with Chocolate sculptor Emily Walton Jones hand crafting and personalizing Heart Throbs – large dark chocolate hearts filled with raspberry truffle ganache. You can also see her latest Valentine-themed chocolate sculptures. It’s fun, it’s free and it’s warm so stop on by when you’re out and about enjoying Winterfest.
